film noir HOMEWORK

Today we were talking about film noir and we went through a PowerPoint  

A photographer’s job is to look around and see other object to interact with and look around for better places. Location, objects and we will see so many test shots from a photographer.

Deep depth of field

2 shots in college and 2 shots as a homework with our chosen location.

Replicate film noir or a video game cover.

Before taking a picture take a good look around

We had to look at a picture and guess what time it was taken and it was back in 1980’s

1.      

What time period do you think the photograph was taken? Give reasons for your answer.

It was taken around 1980’s because the picture shows people wearing the 80’s clothes.

2.What do you think was the genre/subject? The genre was summer events/holidays in Britain because all the pictures have sunshine

3.Are the elements in the shot balanced? Yes they are balanced because the background has a clear shot balanced but the rollercoaster is making it a wide shot.  The water has a clear shot balanced. The picture is squared by 4 by 5. The trains are crossing which made the picture interesting.

4.What message could the photograph be trying to convey? Having fun and promoting holidays.

5.Do you notice anything striking about the shot? The colours are vibrant, train

6.Do you think consent was needed from the subjects? No because back there it was different rules and it was on a public place so the picture is legally fine.

7.What is the viewpoint?  Eye level because the picture is straight.

8.If you were to produce this shot what would you do differently? I will take the picture with different angles and also do test shots.

 I'm not sure really because you can't really tell. Black and white suggests that it is old but you can take black and white picture now with a filter effect.

2.      What message could the photograph be trying to convey? shadows , it has a creepy meaning because one hand is trying to attack another hand.

3.      What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photograph? it would the shadow making it unique.

4.      What problems would you face when trying to recreate this photograph. 

   the light would be the main problem

To recreate this image I will use white painted wall and I will get a torch which will help to create the remake of this picture. The main props I need are torch,white background and a model so I can use his/her hands. The location would be a dark room. There is no editing to this picture except the black and white background which can be done by changing filters.

1.      What time period do you think the photograph was taken? Give reasons for your answer. You can not tell what time it was taken because this image does not have more visual information or evidence to tell what time it was taken.

2.      What message could the photograph be trying to convey? The message of the image can be a creepy or hunted place because it has blinds covering the background.

3.      What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photograph? The unique thing about the image is the blinds covering the original image, this makes the picture unique.

4.      What problems would you face when trying to recreate this photograph. The problems I will discover would be the blinds because it would be hard to find blinds near a front exit.

To recreate this image the props I would use are blinds and a model to acces the entrance gate. The location would be a entrance to the college. There would be no lighting just the entrance gate and a model coming from there. The editing I can use is blinds or I can use Photoshop and get a image of blinds and use it for layer 2.

2.      What message could the photograph be trying to convey? Some kind of secret agent or a ghost because you can the third person enlarged.

3.      What are the unique features that make the image different from current day photograph? The third person being enlarged is the main unique thing about the image

4.      What problems would you face when trying to recreate this photograph. Getting the third person and editing to enlarge him.

To recreate this image I would use three models, a dark room and photoshop to edit the third person to be enlarged. The location can be in a class room. All lights have to be off and the picture should be taken at night. The only edit is the third person being enlarged.
